LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday announced plans to hold a public rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore on August 5. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and other party leaders met Lahore Deputy Commissioner and submitted a formal application for permission.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Raja said the party had a constitutional and democratic right to hold a peaceful gathering. He also expressed hope that the district administration would facilitate the rally and allow PTI to organise the event as planned.
However, he said authorities could also approve another suitable venue if they could not permit the gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.
Raja questioned why PTI should face restrictions when other political parties received permission to hold public meetings.
PTI Highlights Campaign for Imran Khan’s Release
Meanwhile, the announcement followed remarks by Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, who called August 5 a decisive day.
Addressing supporters in Mansehra on Saturday, she said PTI workers would not gather at Islamabad’s D-Chowk during their next protest.
Instead, she said supporters would move towards Adiala Jail as part of their campaign for Imran Khan’s release.
Moreover, Aleema accused the government of spreading false statements in Imran Khan’s name through the media.
She also urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa supporters to support Punjab in the campaign, highlighting Punjab’s role in PTI’s electoral performance.
