Imran Khan’s Release
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan addressed the media outside Parliament on Thursday, offering insights into the party’s stance on a range of critical issues, including Pakistan’s foreign relations, regional dynamics, and the legal status of its founding chairman, Imran Khan.
Speaking on Pakistan’s diplomatic ties with the United States, Barrister Gohar maintained that PTI would only issue a formal response once a clear and consistent direction emerges in bilateral relations. “We will comment once there is clarity on how ties are progressing,” he said, underscoring the party’s cautious approach amid evolving geopolitical developments.
Barrister Gohar notably commended U.S. President Donald Trump for his efforts in reducing tensions between Pakistan and India during their most recent standoff. He described Trump’s role as “significant and timely,” adding, “When two nuclear powers face off and there’s no mediator, the situation can become extremely dangerous.”
His remarks came in the wake of increasing recognition of Trump’s claimed role in halting the May conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s military and diplomatic response to past confrontations with India, Gohar asserted, “India’s arrogance was shattered during the war, and Pakistan’s firm response will be remembered.” His remarks echoed PTI’s broader narrative of national strength and deterrence in the face of aggression.
Turning to strategic partnerships, Gohar praised Pakistan’s enduring alliance with China, calling it “unbreakable and enduring.” He reaffirmed that China remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and a vital economic and security partner.
On the domestic front, Barrister Gohar firmly restated PTI’s commitment to pursuing all legal remedies through judicial institutions. “We’ve said it before — whatever PTI has to gain, it will be through the judiciary,” he reiterated, emphasizing the party’s reliance on the rule of law to resolve political challenges.
In a key clarification, he categorically ruled out any intention of PTI seeking foreign support for the release of Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail. “We will not request any foreign country for the founder’s release,” Gohar stated unequivocally.
His remarks aim to dispel recent rumors and reinforce PTI’s stance that the resolution of political matters lies within Pakistan’s legal framework, not through international mediation.
The statement comes at a time when PTI is under intense political pressure and scrutiny, both domestically and internationally. Gohar’s comments appear intended to present the party as disciplined, constitutionally grounded, and committed to safeguarding national sovereignty amid ongoing political turbulence.
