ISLAMABAD: The Sindh chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued show-cause notices to eight of its provincial assembly members who expressed dissatisfaction, today. The notices were issued because these members supported the elevation of Mutahida Quami Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Rana Ansar to the position of the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.
The opposition party announced on Twitter that they have served notices to MPAs Syed Imran Ali Shah, Sanjay Gangwani, Sachanand Lakhwani Sachal, and Rabia Azfar Nizami for voting in favor of the Sindh opposition leader, contrary to the party’s policy.
Additionally, the party has issued show-cause notices to Umar Omari, Muhammad Ali Aziz, Karim Bux Gabol, and Bilal Ahmed for also voting against the party’s stance on the opposition leader.
The PTI has directed all members to provide an explanation within three days regarding their involvement in the removal of the party’s opposition leader, Haleem Adil Sheikh.
The party stated, “If you provide an unsatisfactory or no response, we will take further action against all members in accordance with the party’s policy.”
PTI’s Secretary General Umar Ayub has issued a formal notification bearing his signature.

On July 26, Ansar from MQM-P made history by becoming the first woman opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.
The assembly’s secretariat issued a notification de-notifying Sheikh as the opposition leader due to the loss of support from lawmakers.
This marks the third time that the provincial assembly has changed its opposition leader during the current tenure.
The application for Ansar’s elevation to the opposition leader’s office received backing from 38 opposition lawmakers, including 21 MQM-P lawmakers and 14 Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) MPAs. Additionally, nine dissatisfied PTI lawmakers also supported her appointment.
Imran Khan To Face Indictment In Contempt Case By ECP On August 2
Meanwhile, the ECP had initiated contempt proceedings against Imran Khan, along with PTI’s former secretary general Asad Umar and former senior vice-president Fawad Chaudhry, last year. The allegations were related to their use of foul language against the chief election commissioner.
The PTI leaders had challenged the ECP’s authority to initiate contempt proceedings under Section 10 of the Election Act 2017 in various high courts. However, the Supreme Court had earlier this year upheld the validity of the ECP’s proceedings.
