PTI Protest
ISLAMABAD: The Red Zone in Islamabad has been sealed off once again in anticipation of a protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. This decision reflects the government’s heightened security measures as tensions rise ahead of the planned demonstrations.
Reports indicate that containers have been strategically placed on the roads leading to the Red Zone to restrict access. Currently, Margalla Road is the only route remaining open for passage, making it challenging for residents and commuters.
Additionally, containers have been set up at Faizabad on the Express Highway, resulting in long queues of vehicles and significant traffic congestion.
Many citizens attempting to reach their workplaces and educational institutions have encountered considerable difficulties due to these roadblocks.
Despite these restrictions, the leadership of PTI remains steadfast in their intentions. They have affirmed plans to carry out rallies across Punjab, sticking to their original schedule despite the government’s efforts to curb their activities.
The day prior, former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan had issued a renewed call for nationwide protests, urging his supporters to take a stand for the independence of the judiciary.
He specifically called for demonstrations in various cities, including Mianwali, Bahawalpur, and Faisalabad, culminating in a significant show of force at D-Chowk in Islamabad this Friday.
In response to the growing tensions, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) authorities have enforced Section 144 and the Peaceful Assembly Act across the capital.
These legal measures prohibit gatherings and processions in designated restricted areas as part of the broader effort to maintain order and security.
According to a statement from the police, the Red Zone and surrounding areas have been classified as high-security zones, with strict enforcement measures in place.
The ICT Police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens, emphasizing that anyone engaging in illegal activities will be held accountable.
The atmosphere in Islamabad remains charged as both the authorities and the PTI prepare for potential confrontations in the coming days.
The ongoing developments highlight the complexities surrounding political protests in Pakistan and the government’s efforts to maintain control amid rising public discontent.
