PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided in principle to launch its October 4 long march from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts, although the party has yet to select the exact starting city, sources said.
Karak, the hometown of PTI MNA Shahid Khattak, is being considered as one possible launch point. Dera Ismail Khan is another option under discussion. The party’s political committee is expected to make the final decision at its meeting this week.
Senior PTI leaders have also proposed that former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and incumbent Chief Minister Sohail Afridi travel together on the same container during the march. However, party leadership has not yet approved the proposal.
PTI has already announced the October 4 long march but has kept its detailed strategy confidential. Sources said several provincial assembly members and party office-bearers remain unaware of the planned route and other arrangements.
Information Minister Shafi Jan and PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar have confirmed that the march is likely to begin from the southern districts. However, they said the final launch location has not yet been determined.
According to sources, Gandapur has also arranged a separate container for the procession. His convoy is expected to travel from Dera Ismail Khan towards Islamabad using the motorway.
Sources said Gandapur’s convoy would wait for Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s convoy at Hakla Interchange before proceeding towards the federal capital. The party is expected to finalise its broader strategy, launch point and leadership arrangements during the upcoming political committee meeting.
