Party Seeks Immediate Decision on Rally Request
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has approached the Lahore High Court over its proposed August 5 rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.
The party has asked the court to direct the Lahore district administration to decide its pending permission request immediately.
PTI Lahore President Mian Usman Akram filed the constitutional petition through his legal counsel.
The petition names the Lahore Deputy Commissioner and other relevant government authorities as respondents.
PTI said it submitted its application to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on July 22.
The party requested permission to organise a peaceful public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.
However, the administration has reportedly neither approved nor rejected the application.
PTI Challenges Delay as Unconstitutional
The petition argues that the prolonged delay has created uncertainty over the planned rally.
PTI said the administration’s silence has limited the party’s ability to complete arrangements for the event.
The party maintains that peaceful public meetings are protected under the Constitution.
It said political parties have the right to communicate with supporters and present their views through lawful gatherings.
PTI argued that authorities cannot restrict constitutional freedoms by delaying decisions on valid applications.
The petition states that government officials must act fairly, transparently and within a reasonable period.
It further claims that the administration’s inaction amounts to an arbitrary use of authority.
Court Decision Could Determine Rally’s Future
PTI has requested the Lahore High Court to declare the delay unlawful and without legal authority.
The party also wants the court to order the Deputy Commissioner to perform official duties under the Constitution and applicable laws.
The case is expected to be heard in the coming days.
The court’s decision could determine whether the administration must rule on the application before August 5.
No official response from the Lahore district administration was reported at the time the petition was filed.
