LAKKI MARWAT: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march is heading towards Islamabad after negotiations with the federal government failed to resolve key differences.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi led the party’s convoy from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat on Sunday. PTI workers from Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat and nearby districts joined the gathering.
Afridi said he would announce the party’s next strategy on October 8 when the convoy reaches Khairabad. The march is scheduled to spend Sunday night near Karak before moving towards Kohat, Peshawar and Charsadda in the following days.
**Government, PTI talks end without agreement**
The PTI and government held three rounds of negotiations, but the discussions ultimately broke down over unresolved issues concerning counterterrorism cooperation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the talks had collapsed and accused the KP chief minister of undermining the negotiations. However, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja blamed the federal government, saying it wanted the provincial administration to accept responsibility for anti-terrorism measures initiated unilaterally by Islamabad.
The government has warned that the march will not be allowed to create a law-and-order crisis or enter Islamabad illegally. Officials have also cautioned participants against violence and said violators will face legal action.
The PTI maintains that the march aims to secure the release of party founder Imran Khan and promote what it describes as the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law.
