Sher Afzal Marwat
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat was arrested outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), on Thursday. The senior vice president of PTI was taken into custody by a heavy police contingent under Section 3MPO and transported to the Mazang police station. This incident occurred as Marwat was leaving the high court premises after attending a lawyers’ convention.
Earlier, Marwat had claimed an attempted “abduction” by KP police while heading to Gulabad near Chakdara for a party convention in Bajaur. Subsequently, an FIR was filed against him and others for organizing a worker’s convention in Swabi, leading to charges under sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In October, another case was lodged against Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) for allegedly provoking the public against state institutions through social media.
Last month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted protective bail to Sher Afzal Marwat in two cases registered against him in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Moreover, this arrest is the latest development in a series of legal and law enforcement actions involving Marwat, adding to the political tension and legal scrutiny surrounding the PTI leader.
As the situation unfolds, Marwat’s arrest and the charges against him continue to draw attention, raising questions about the political landscape and the legal implications for leaders of major political parties in Pakistan. In addition, the case also underscores the complex interplay between politics, law, and public sentiment in the country.
