LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has handed PTI leader Hammad Azhar over to police on a 20-day physical remand. Lahore police presented PTI leader and former federal minister before the court today.
Hammad Azhar was arrested on Sunday from Multan and he was handed over to the Lahore police.
Meanwhile, Azhar’s mother approached the Lahore High Court seeking his recovery after police reportedly detained him in Multan.
Police said Azhar faced 18 cases registered in Lahore and had remained absconding for nearly three years. The investigation police arrested the PTI leader and presented him before the court to seek physical remand.
Court Proceedings and Police Investigation
Police told the court that investigators would complete their probe before submitting a charge sheet before the anti-terrorism court.
Earlier, Azhar’s mother petitioned the LHC against the Punjab inspector general, Lahore police chief and other officials.
She asked the court to disclose his arrest and produce him before the relevant judicial forum.
According to the petition, authorities detained Azhar in Multan two days earlier but did not present him before a court.
The petitioner also sought records of cases registered against her son and formal confirmation of his arrest.
May 9 Cases Linked to PTI Leader
Police sources said authorities transferred Azhar to Lahore after his arrest in Multan.
They added that authorities had declared him a proclaimed offender over several cases linked to the May 9, 2023 riots.
Azhar served as federal minister during PTI’s government and resigned as the party’s Punjab president in August 2024.
He cited limited access to jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and restrictions on his movements.
PTI leader Hammad Azhar remained in hiding for more than two years after he was named in several cases stemming from the May 9 violence.
