Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a show-cause notice to Senator Zarqa Suharwardy over her remarks on the Kashmir issue. The party said her comments did not reflect its official position. Moreover, PTI leaders described the statement as a personal opinion.
The decision came after the senator’s remarks reportedly contradicted the party’s stated policy on Kashmir. PTI leaders confirmed that the matter remains under internal review.
PTI Distances Itself from Remarks
PTI Member of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser said the party issued the notice because of unnecessary comments on Kashmir. He added that the remarks went against the party’s official policy. Therefore, the leadership decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings.
The party also clarified that Senator Zarqa’s statement represented her personal views. It stressed that the comments should not be considered PTI’s official stance.
Leadership Reviews Disciplinary Matter
PTI leader Shaikh Waqas Akram said the party had already accepted all public demands of the Joint Action Committee. He added that PTI also released a detailed statement outlining its position on the 12 reserved seats.
Furthermore, Akram confirmed that Senator Zarqa had already received the show-cause notice. He said the party is reviewing the matter under its rules and regulations. However, he noted that the leadership has not reached a final decision regarding further action.
The party is expected to complete its internal review before announcing any disciplinary measures. Until then, PTI maintains that only its official statements represent the party’s position.
