On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed serious concerns regarding the deteriorating health of Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, and called for an urgent medical examination.
Bushra Bibi is currently under house arrest in the couple’s Banigala residence, which has been designated as a sub-jail for her following their conviction in the Toshakhana case.
Mashal Yousufzai, the spokesperson for Bushra Bibi and a PTI lawyer, took to social media to share distressing information about her health. Yousufzai mentioned that Bushra Bibi revealed that she had been given something resembling acid in her food, causing intense pain for the past five days.
She described the situation, stating that it felt like her stomach was on fire, and she had severe sores in her mouth and throat, making it challenging for her to consume anything except dry toast dipped in tea or water.
Expressing concern over a “serious threat” to Bushra Bibi’s life, Yousufzai called for an immediate medical examination. PTI’s official social media handle condemned what it termed a “fascist regime” maliciously attacking Imran’s wife and denying her medical aid. The party vowed that those responsible for such acts would be brought to justice soon.
The PTI called on the higher courts to intervene in the matter, and PTI Senator Faisal Javed urged the party’s core committee to address the issue. PTI social media head Jibran Ilyas emphasized the need for a full medical checkup for Bushra Bibi and called for respecting the women of the country.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were recently sentenced to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference for retaining expensive jewelry. The government, on January 31, converted Imran’s Banigala residence into a sub-jail for Bushra at the request of the jail superintendent.
Speculations about a deal arose, but Imran denied any such arrangement. On February 6, Bushra Bibi approached the Islamabad High Court against the notification, requesting a transfer to Adiala Jail. The situation has sparked concerns about the treatment of political figures and the state of the rule of law in Pakistan.
