Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has firmly rejected allegations that it is not cooperating on counterterrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Party leaders described the claims as false and disconnected from ground realities. They said terrorism is a national challenge that demands unity rather than political blame. They also stressed that their stance against extremism has remained consistent over time.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said terrorism must be uprooted at all costs. He stressed that extremists have no religion and no political affiliation. He added that linking terrorism with any political party weakens national resolve. According to him, PTI has always opposed the politicisation of security issues. He expressed hope that unfounded allegations would not be repeated in the future.
Call for Long-Term National Counterterrorism Policy
PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja emphasised the full implementation of the National Action Plan. He said Pakistan needs a comprehensive national policy that lasts between five and ten years. He argued that short-term approaches have failed to deliver sustainable results. Therefore, he called for inclusive consultations before finalising any counterterrorism strategy.
Raja said accusations against PTI are unacceptable and harmful. He urged authorities to engage all political stakeholders in meaningful dialogue. He stressed that the party does not want innocent citizens to suffer due to flawed policies. Moreover, he said cooperation can only improve when trust replaces confrontation.
KP Assemblyโs Role Highlighted
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser urged the federal government to take the KP Assembly into confidence. He said terrorism has not declined and, in fact, has increased. He added that failed policies should be reviewed rather than defended. According to him, provincial input is essential for effective security decisions.
Qaiser warned that excluding elected representatives could weaken public confidence. He said decisions imposed without consultation risk deepening political divisions. Therefore, he called for coordination between the centre and the province.
PTI Responds to Recent Criticism
The partyโs stance followed strong criticism from security officials earlier this week. The officials alleged that political resistance had created challenges for counterterrorism efforts. They also pointed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs share of terrorist incidents during 2025.
However, PTI leaders rejected those claims. They said terrorism requires firm state action supported by national consensus. They warned that political finger-pointing distracts from real solutions.
PTI Reaffirms Commitment to Peace
PTI reiterated its commitment to eliminating terrorism across Pakistan. The leadership stressed support for decisive action within constitutional limits. At the same time, they called for transparency and inclusive policymaking. They said only collective resolve can ensure lasting peace and stability.
