PTI Slams Use of Force Against TLP Protesters, Urges Judicial Inquiry and Justice for Victims
ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the use of force against Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protesters in Muridke. In a harshly worded statement, PTI demanded the immediate resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, holding her responsible for the incident.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram voiced outrage over the alleged killing of TLP marchers. He said the government lacks the credibility to investigate the matter transparently. Therefore, he insisted that independent observers and human rights organisations must be included to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry.
Akram said that if those behind the 2014 Model Town massacre had been punished, the Muridke tragedy might have been avoided. He criticised the silence of top officials, asking why the prime minister, Punjab chief minister, and information minister had gone missing in such a critical time.
Calls for Medical Aid, Compensation, and Transparent Justice Gain Momentum After Muridke Incident
The PTI spokesperson highlighted that the TLP leadership consistently sought dialogue to avoid violence, even up until the final hours. He said a peaceful resolution could have been achieved had the government shown willingness to engage in meaningful talks before the protests escalated.
Akram demanded immediate medical attention for the injured and financial compensation for the families of those killed. He called for a transparent and judicial inquiry, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable without delay.
Drawing parallels between the Muridke and Model Town incidents, PTI emphasized that state authorities cannot be trusted to carry out an unbiased investigation. Independent and neutral actors are necessary to uncover the truth and deliver justice.
