KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) today challenged ban imposed on the live broadcast of speeches of Imran Khan in the Sindh High Court.
PTI lawyer Aliya Nabi filed the petition in the SHC on Wednesday.
On August 20, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) imposed a ban live coverage of Imran Khan’s speeches.
According to PEMRA, all satellite television channels in Pakistan were barred from broadcasting live speeches of the former prime minister Imran Khan.
PEMRA slapped this ban after Imran Khan warned the IG and DIG of Islamabad police during a protest rally in F-9 Park in Islamabad. In his speech Khan said that he would not spare them and register a case against them for “torturing” party leader Shahbaz Gill during physical remand.
He also called out Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zeba Chaudhry for approving the police request for physical remand despite knowing that Gill was subjected to “torture”.
Imran Khan said, “We will not spare you [Zeba] and will also file a case against her.”
