Party Claims Female Inmates Targeted PTI Leader
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has alleged that its senior leader Aaliya Hamza was physically attacked inside Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Hamza currently serves as the party’s chief organiser in Punjab.
According to PTI leaders, one female prisoner and nearly 10 other inmates confronted her inside a jail toilet.
The party claimed the dispute began while prisoners were attempting to collect water.
PTI representatives alleged that the inmates physically assaulted Hamza and attempted to strangle her.
They described the incident as an attempt on her life.
However, these allegations have not been independently verified.
The party said imprisoned PTI members Sanam Javed and Falak Javed intervened during the confrontation.
According to the PTI account, they rescued Hamza from the other inmates and prevented the situation from worsening.
Salman Akram Raja Demands Investigation and Medical Examination
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party had received deeply concerning information from Kot Lakhpat Jail.
He held the Punjab government and prison administration responsible for Hamza’s safety while she remains in state custody.
Raja demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the alleged incident.
He called for disciplinary action against any prison officials found guilty of negligence.
The PTI leader also demanded the registration of a criminal case against those allegedly responsible for the attack.
Raja said the party would consult Hamza’s family before approaching the court.
A petition is expected to seek an independent medical examination and stronger security arrangements for the imprisoned leader.
The proposed medical examination could help establish whether Hamza suffered any physical injuries.
PTI has also demanded assurances that she will be protected from further confrontation inside the prison.
Punjab Prisons Chief Rejects Physical Assault Claim
Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Mian Salik Jalal rejected the PTI’s account of a physical attack.
He said no physical clash took place between Hamza and the other prisoners.
According to the prisons chief, the inmates only exchanged heated words over access to water in the jail toilet.
He did not support the claim that Hamza had been assaulted or strangled.
The conflicting statements have created demands for an independent investigation.
No publicly available medical report or surveillance footage had confirmed either account at the time of reporting.
Hamza was arrested by Punjab police in March 2026 and transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Police said she had been avoiding arrest and was organising political gatherings involving PTI legislators, candidates and workers outside Adiala Jail.
She was arrested while visiting family members in Lahore during the Eid holiday period.
Reports said she was initially taken to Shadman Police Station before being transferred to prison.
PTI leaders rejected the cases against her and described her detention as politically motivated.
Raja previously claimed that the charges and sentence against Hamza were unlawful.
The latest controversy is likely to increase political pressure on the Punjab government and prison authorities.
PTI is demanding accountability, medical access and greater protection for its detained members.
Prison authorities continue to maintain that the incident was limited to a verbal disagreement.
