ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have launched a specialized mobile registration system catering to Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Nationals visiting the country.
According to the PTA, those falling into this category can use their personal mobile phones in Pakistan for a period of 120 days from their arrival date without being subject to taxation or duties.
To avail of this provision, individuals must visit the designated link at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs. Upon accessing the site, users need to create an account, selecting the category of ‘Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Citizens,’ and then proceed to register their mobile phone.
This initiative originated during the tenure of former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aiming to grant free usage privileges to overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals for 120 days without customs duties. To benefit from this arrangement, individuals within this category must reapply for free registration each time they arrive in Pakistan.
Here is a step-by-step guide:
- Create an Account: Sign up and provide necessary details to create an account.
- Choose Temporary Registration: Select the Temporary Registration option and proceed with the registration process.
- Submit Personal Details: Fill out the registration form with accurate personal details, including a password, aligning them with the information used during immigration.
- Verification: Upon submission, users will receive an email and SMS for verification. Activate your account by following the link provided in the SMS/Mail.
- Login and Declaration: Log in to the portal with your credentials, where you will encounter a declaration form. Agree to the Terms & Conditions and select ‘Temporary Registration for Overseas Pakistanis/Foreign Nationals.’
- Enter Details: Provide necessary information, including ID card number or Passport number, entry and departure dates, and mobile network operator.
- Generate OTP: Submit the form to generate a six-digit OTP. Enter this OTP in the designated section to activate your account successfully.
This streamlined process ensures a quick and efficient temporary registration, enabling individuals to stay connected during their visit without the burden of additional taxes.
