The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned citizens about the growing threat of deepfake content and online fraud. The regulator urged people to verify digital media before trusting or sharing it. It said advances in artificial intelligence have made fake videos and images increasingly difficult to identify.
PTA Shares Tips to Identify Deepfakes
According to the advisory, users should watch for inconsistent eye blinking and unnatural lip movements. Awkward facial expressions, blurry facial edges, and mismatched shadows may also indicate manipulated content.
Furthermore, PTA advised the public to verify suspicious videos using specialized tools. It recommended Microsoft Video Authenticator and Deepware Scanner to help identify AI-generated or altered content before sharing it.
Regulator Urges Public to Verify Information
PTA encouraged citizens to obtain information only through its official communication channels. It also advised users to contact the PTA Digital Assistant on WhatsApp at 0315-0055055 for guidance and additional information.
Meanwhile, the regulator urged the public to follow the principle of “Think – Verify – Trust” before believing or forwarding online content. It stressed that greater awareness and responsible online behavior remain essential to limiting AI-generated misinformation and fraud.
