The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) faced heavy selling pressure on Monday as political uncertainty weakened investor confidence. The benchmark KSE-100 Index fell sharply during trading.
The index dropped more than 2,000 points during the session, extending pressure on an already cautious market. According to market data, the KSE-100 stood near 166,066 points around 1:33pm, down 2,088 points or 1.24%.
Political Uncertainty Weighs on Investor Sentiment
Investors remained cautious after government-opposition talks ended without a breakthrough over key political and security issues. The deadlock has increased uncertainty as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continues its planned long march.
Moreover, political tensions have added to concerns about economic stability and future policy decisions. Analysts said investors were monitoring developments because prolonged uncertainty could keep risk appetite under pressure.
Global Factors Add to Market Pressure
Meanwhile, international factors also contributed to the market decline. Higher oil prices have raised concerns about inflation and macroeconomic stability, while uncertainty surrounding global financial markets has further encouraged investors to reduce exposure.
Market analysts said the combination of domestic political uncertainty and expensive oil created additional selling pressure. As a result, several investors adopted a cautious approach and remained reluctant to make fresh positions.
The KSE-100 had closed at 168,155.49 points in the previous session. However, Monday’s decline pushed the index lower, although trading conditions could change as political developments unfold.
The latest market movement highlights the sensitivity of Pakistani equities to political and economic developments. Therefore, investors are expected to watch government-opposition engagements, global oil prices and financial conditions before making decisions.
This decline also erased part of recent market gains.
