Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced a “blackmail” accusation from royal biographer Angela Levin over their ongoing security concerns in the UK.
Speaking to TalkTV, Levin criticised the couple’s efforts to secure state-funded protection and suggested they could use their children and a possible departure from Britain as leverage.
“It’s blackmail, isn’t it? That’s what I think,” Levin said. She claimed the couple appeared to be demanding specific arrangements and could restrict access to their children in response to decisions over their security.
Harry And Meghan Face Security Review
Harry and Meghan returned to the UK late last month, six years after stepping back from royal duties and losing taxpayer-funded security.
Their current security arrangements are under review by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as RAVEC. Meanwhile, Meghan’s security is also being assessed separately by her own Risk Management Board.
The dispute over protection has remained an important issue for Harry, who has previously challenged decisions concerning his UK security arrangements. The Duke has argued that adequate protection is necessary when he and his family visit Britain.
Couple Could Return To Montecito
Reports cited in the supplied material suggest Harry and Meghan could return to their California home if the security review does not produce the outcome they want.
A friend of Harry reportedly indicated that the Duke could move back to Montecito permanently if he does not receive the security arrangements he seeks.
“If he doesn’t get [security], then I believe he will go back to Montecito for good,” the friend reportedly said.
The comments come as the couple continues to divide their time between the United States and Britain. Harry and Meghan have lived in Montecito with their children since leaving their senior royal roles.
