ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tashkent on Tuesday for a two-day official visit following his trip to Azerbaijan. The visit comes at the invitation of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by senior Uzbek officials, including Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, and Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Ahmed Farooq and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Takhitayev. A ceremonial salute was presented by a contingent of the Uzbek armed forces at the airport.
During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Uzbekistan’s historical legacy by laying a wreath at the Independence Monument in Tashkent. He will also be given a tour of the monument, which showcases the country’s 3,000-year history through intricate woodwork.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where the leaders will discuss strengthening cooperation in areas such as regional connectivity, trade, investment, energy, defense, security, and education. They will also address global and regional issues of mutual concern.
In addition, both nations are expected to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Sharif will also speak at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, focusing on enhancing trade and investment ties between the two countries. He will visit the Techno Park in Tashkent to observe developments in Uzbekistan’s construction industry.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Investment and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi.
