ISLAMABAD: Razia Noreen, nurse of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has been selected for Tamgha-e-Shujaat for saving newborn.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the conferment of the Tamgha-e-Shujaat for Razia Noreen for her bravery during a deadly hospital fire.
Razia Noreen risked her life to rescue the only child who survived the tragic incident and successfully brought the newborn to safety.
The award recognises her courage, dedication and commitment to duty during the emergency.
The president also approved several other summaries during the meeting, covering legislation, military administration and environmental management.
Legislation and administrative measures approved
Among the approved measures was the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) Amendment Bill 2026.
The president also approved the Standard Time (Interpretation of References) Amendment Bill 2026.
Another decision involved revising the Table of Organization and Equipment of the Armed Forces Institute of Urology (AFIU) in Rawalpindi.
The revision aims to update the organisational structure and equipment requirements of the medical facility.
Meanwhile, another approved measure concerns the environmentally responsible management of hazardous materials present on ships.
The decision seeks to strengthen responsible handling practices for hazardous materials and address associated environmental concerns.
The approvals come as authorities continue reviewing measures involving public institutions, legislation and administrative procedures.
However, the conferment of the civil award on Razia Noreen remains the key decision linked to the recent hospital fire.
