Two people, including a prayer leader, died from electrocution in Swabi on Sunday. Meanwhile, a teenager drowned in the Indus River in a separate incident, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
The electrocution occurred in Yar Hussain Bazaar of Razaar tehsil. Reports indicated that a welder attempted a direct connection from a transmission line during a power outage. However, electricity supply suddenly resumed while he was placing a hook on the line.
Sudden Power Restoration Turns Fatal
Local residents said the area had been without electricity before the incident. As power returned unexpectedly, the welder suffered a severe electric shock. Consequently, a prayer leader present at the site was also electrocuted.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Luqman Khan said the control room received information promptly. Rescue teams immediately reached the location and provided first aid. They then shifted both victims to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Doctors examined the injured men and later pronounced them dead. Authorities identified the deceased as 45-year-old Iqbal Mufti, the local mosqueโs prayer leader, and 35-year-old welder Sajjid Mahmood. Both belonged to Yar Hussain village.
