ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has named Senator Sherry Rehman as its parliamentary leader in the Senate, a significant move in the realm of Pakistani politics.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani conveyed his congratulations to Senator Rehman on her nomination, expressing confidence in her ability to make substantial contributions to legislative activities within the upper house of parliament.
Highlighting the importance of the Senate as a key arena for policy formulation, Chairman Gillani expressed his belief that Senator Rehman would adeptly utilize her skills and experience to address the pressing issues affecting the populace through effective legislation.

Senator Sherry Rehman’s nomination holds significance given her notable political career. In 2018, she made history by becoming the first female Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, a testament to her leadership abilities and dedication to public service.
This recent development underscores the continued commitment of the PPP to effective representation and leadership within the Senate, positioning Senator Rehman to play a pivotal role in shaping the legislative agenda and advocating for the interests of the people.
The announcement follows the unopposed election of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani as the Chairman of the Senate on April 9, further solidifying the PPP’s influence in the upper house of parliament. Additionally, the uncontested return of Syedal Khan Nasir, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate for deputy chairman Senate, underscores the prevailing stability and consensus among Senate leadership.
