Minister Orders Action Following Transformer Repair Bribery Claim
Power Minister Awais Leghari says strict action has been taken against a Lesco line superintendent.
The move follows corruption allegations raised by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif regarding transformer repair charges in a village.
Asif claimed Lesco employees collected Rs80,000 from residents for transformer repairs without issuing any receipt.
Cabinet Member’s Complaint Triggers Internal Accountability
Leghari described the public complaint as a positive example of accountability within the government.
He said public representatives have a duty to highlight citizens’ concerns. He added that the ministry responds to criticism and works to improve service delivery.
According to the minister, action was taken immediately after the allegations surfaced.
Government Admits Limited Corruption, Promises Better Oversight
Leghari acknowledged that corruption exists within power distribution companies.
However, he rejected claims that such practices affect all consumers. He estimated the prevalence of corruption at 10 to 15 percent.
The minister also highlighted the ministryโs complaint system and pledged further improvements in monitoring and accountability.
