Consumers slapped with Rs4.45 hike
ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has issued a notification regarding the increase in electricity prices for K-Electric (KE) consumers. Last month, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority approved a Rs4.45 per unit hike in the power tariff for KE consumers.

On September 28, Nepra approved an increase in electricity rates for KE consumers, ranging from Rs4.45 per unit for two months (October and November) in addition to the earlier Rs3.28 per unit hike allowed for six months (from October to March) as part of a national tariff increase.
In October and November, KE consumers will experience an extra cost of Rs4.76 to Rs7.73 per unit, depending on their consumption categories, and then an average of Rs3.28 from December to March.
Discos have already implemented the quarterly adjustment for KE, relating to February and March 2023.
The estimate of cumulative impact of these quarterly tariff adjustments is approximately Rs30 billion, as reported in the media.
Nepra, in its statement to the government for notification last month, stated, “Nepra has decided to allow the application of the 1st quarterly adjustment of FY2022-23, ranging from Rs1.4874 to Rs4.4547/kWh for different consumer categories, except lifeline consumers, based on the consumption of February 2023 and March 2023, to be recovered from K-Electric consumers in the months of October and November 2023, respectively.”
