Zain Qureshi Resignation as PTI’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: Zain Qureshi, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has resigned from his role as the party’s deputy parliamentary leader in the National Assembly.

Qureshi’s resignation comes after he received a show-cause notice from the party regarding his alleged indiscipline during the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment. He stated that his decision to step down was aimed at facilitating an impartial inquiry.

In a video statement, Qureshi reaffirmed his loyalty to PTI founder Imran Khan and his father, Shah Mehmood Qureshi. He clarified that he had been instructed by his father to remain discreet about the situation.

“I could never consider voting for this constitutional amendment,” he emphasized, refuting claims that he supported the changes, which he termed “baseless propaganda.”

Zain explained that his father had summoned him to Lahore, where he is currently imprisoned on a separate charge. He reiterated that his father opposed the approval of the constitutional amendment.

The PTI had issued show-cause notices to several parliament members, including Zain Qureshi, Aslam Ghuman, Muqdad Ali Khan, and Riyaz Fatiana, for allegedly defying party directives concerning the amendment.

The notice accused the government of attempting to undermine judicial independence through the proposed constitutional changes and instructed all PTI MNAs and Senators not to support the amendment bill, urging them to remain in designated safe areas and comply with party instructions.
