Widening Anti-Government Movement: JUI-F Chief Denounces ‘Fake Assemblies’ and Alleges Rigged Elections

PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has reiterated the rejection of “fake assemblies” as the politico-religious party prepares to escalate its anti-government movement.

Speaking at a large public gathering in Peshawar on Thursday, Fazl stated, “Once again, the workers have made it clear that fake assemblies are unacceptable.”

Expressing his belief that the 2024 general elections were even more rigged than those of 2018, the JUI-F leader emphasized that these governments do not truly represent the people. “We are championing the cause of people’s dignity,” he asserted.

It’s noteworthy that the JUI-F previously labeled the former PTI-led government as “fake” before aligning ideologically against the incumbent PML-N-led coalition government.

In October 2018, Fazl criticized the then-Imran Khan-led government, stating, “Legislation carried out by a fake parliament holds no legal weight.”

During the public rally, Fazl highlighted his advocacy for the rights of Pashtuns and Baloch. He reiterated that decisions should be made in the field, not in the assembly, which he considers unrepresentative.

Emphasizing the importance of dialogue, Fazl stated, “Threats will not deter us.” He hinted at a potential “court arrest drive,” expanding the movement beyond public gatherings, stating, “[We] will fill the jails if necessary.”

Addressing a recent rally in Karachi, Fazl reaffirmed that the JUI-F is fighting for the rights of the people and the sovereignty of the country, rather than seeking power. He criticized the alleged manipulation of votes and accused the authorities of selling legislative seats in the 2024 polls, claiming democracy had been undermined.

Fazl, who led the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which ousted the former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government in 2022, stressed that their struggle is for the nation’s sovereignty. He denounced the 2024 general elections as a “drama,” accusing those in power of making Pakistan subservient to foreign interests despite its wealth of resources and capable individuals.
