ISLAMABAD: According to the National Assembly Secretariat, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri has not quit and will preside over Monday’s session of the National Assembly, which will pick Pakistan’s new prime minister.
Asad Qaiser, the speaker of the National Assembly, resigned on Saturday night in the middle of the session. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, a panel of chairs member, took the speaker’s place when he announced his resignation and continued the no-confidence motion.
In a statement, the Assembly Secretariat announced that Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri had not resigned and will instead preside over the session on Monday (today). On that day, the National Assembly Secretariat was visited by Acting Speaker Suri.
“He is also facing a no-confidence motion,” the secretariat stated late last night, but it remained unclear if he would lead the session.
