Ex-senator Chaudhry Tanveer, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), got hospitalised on Sunday after he complained of a cardiac condition. He is now being held in the custody of Rawalpindi authorities.
The PML-N leader was taken to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology after becoming unwell while being held by the anti-corruption squad. For the past two days, Tanveer had been complaining of a cardiac issue, according to sources.
Test results are expected to determine the duration of the PML-N leader’s stay at a medical facility, according to reports from hospital sources.
His son’s wedding reception had brought Tanveer back to the nation, whereas he had been receiving medical treatment overseas.
At the Karachi airport on Friday night, he was on his way back abroad for treatment when he was detained by immigration officers.
Rawalpindi’s anti-corruption team received him in Lahore after a private plane flew him there. Tanveer was escorted by vehicle from Lahore to Rawalpindi under heavy security. He was held in the Cantonment Police Station because the anti-corruption unit lacked a lockup of its own.
It was reported that Tanveer had been arrested in a case filed on March 8 and will be brought in front of a duty magistrate on Sunday to be held in custody. In order to get the remand and begin the investigation, the anti-corruption director had organised a team.
The PML-N workers and Tanveer’s sons reached the Cantt Police Station when they heard of Tanveer’s transfer to Rawalpindi. The cops, on the other hand, forbade anyone from meeting him.
Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz said that Tanveer was wrongfully imprisoned in Karachi and then transported to Lahore without posting a transit bail. That Tanveer’s family could not provide him with the medicine he needed because of the police’s refusal to let them in.
