Fresh fires broke out in Swat’s Babuzai, Kabal and Barikot tehsils on Sunday, and the authorities could not contain the roaring blaze.
According to district administration authorities, the bulk of the fires that started on June 1 has been put out. Over 65 fires have been extinguished recently in different parts of the Swat district.
Flames have engulfed hills around Marghuzar, Malkidam, Gul Maira, Amlooktal and Shingrai in the north of Pakistan. An effort is underway to bring them under control.
A forest fire in the hills has destroyed more than a thousand small trees and bushes around Marghuzar.
Villages in the path of the raging forest fires have been evacuated, and the inhabitants have been instructed to seek refuge elsewhere.
