Shehbaz Sharif, the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has responded to the suspension of Imran Khan’s sentence, asserting that it has not been revoked. Sharif expressed that the messages from the Chief Justice of Pakistan have reached the Islamabad High Court as well.
He raised concerns about the perceived predictability of outcomes before verdicts are officially announced. He questioned the state of justice in the country when such situations arise. Shehbaz further asked that if a clear message is received from the higher judiciary, what else should the subordinate court do?
Sharif criticized the judicial system’s handling of cases, particularly mentioning his brother Nawaz Sharif’s situation where a monitoring judge was appointed to oversee his punishment. He criticized the involvement of the chief justice in this capacity, suggesting that such actions could be recorded as a ‘dark chapter’ in the nation’s legal history.
Moreover, he emphasized that an unfair justice system is not acceptable, expressing concern about the disparity in the application of the law and the challenges faced by common citizens in obtaining justice. He also questioned the justice system’s approach when individuals engaged in illegal activities are facilitated while others are not.
