SC Verdict: Imran Khan Extends Congratulations to Government on NRO 2

On Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan delivered pointed criticisms against the current government during an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, where he is being detained.

Imran Khan sharply criticized the ruling authorities, accusing them of enacting self-serving legislation. He sarcastically congratulated them on what he referred to as “NRO 2,” alluding to the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Khan argued that this recent legal development is an attempt to sidestep accountability for corruption.

He expressed frustration over the increased difficulty in addressing white-collar crime following the recent Supreme Court verdict. “These cases originate from their own era, hence the enactment of NRO 2,” Khan alleged, suggesting that the government’s legislative changes are designed to absolve corruption cases against themselves.

Khan was incredulous at the notion that lawmakers could use their legislative power to nullify corruption cases against themselves, declaring, “This kind of self-exemption through legislation has never occurred anywhere else in the world.”

In addition to his critiques of the government, Imran Khan revealed that he is facing pressure regarding the trial of former ISI Chief General Faiz Hameed, implying that threats are being made against him.

Addressing internal party matters, Khan defended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, countering criticisms from within the party. “Some members are undermining Ali Amin Gandapur, but I chose him, and I stand by my decision,” Khan asserted.

He also issued a warning to those conspiring against his decisions within the party. Khan reminded them that their political success was achieved with PTI’s support, not through personal effort.

“To those conspiring, be aware: I won’t hesitate to deny you a ticket in the future,” he cautioned.
