KYIV: In the eastern Donbas area of Ukraine, Russian soldiers blasted over 40 districts, Ukraine’s military claimed, threatening to cut off residents stuck in the path of their fourth-month assault.
Russia is attempting to gain complete control of the Donbas, a region of eastern Ukraine that it claims on behalf of separatists after failing to conquer Kyiv or Kharkiv.
In an attempt to encircle Ukrainian soldiers in the city of Sievierodonetsk and its twin Lysychansk, Russia has sent hundreds of troops into the region. Russia’s goal is to retake the whole Luhansk province, which would be achieved if the rebels collapsed.
The occupying forces in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions have damaged or destroyed a total of 47 civilian structures, including 38 residences and a school.
The Joint Task Force of Ukraine’s armed forces stated on Facebook that five people were killed and 12 were wounded because of this bombardment.
As many as 62 “enemy troops” were killed in the retaliation of 10 hostile strikes, according to the statement.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Russian forces “heavily outnumber us” in several areas of the east.
As Moscow strives to merge its hold on the land it has conquered, President Vladimir Putin issued a law streamlining the procedure for people of newly occupied regions to receive Russian citizenship and passports.
Wednesday saw the Russian parliament remove the maximum age restriction for contract military duty, underlining the necessity to replace those who had been killed or injured in combat.
Zelensky remarked in a late-night video message on the new Russian enrollment rules: ” (They) no longer have enough young guys, but they still have the will to fight. “It will take some time to break this stubbornness,” he said.
As Zelenskiy stated last week, he and Putin could only resolve their disagreements through direct communication.
