Punjab CM holds meeting in Rawalpindi ahead of Khan’s plan to announce date to dissolve Punjab-KP assemblies

ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi held another meeting in Rawalpindi with his like-minded neutrals to seek guidance from them as PTI chief Imran Khan is announcing a date to dissolve assemblies of Punjab and KP today.

PTI is holding a rally in Lahore today evening and Imran Khan is expected to announce Punjab and KP assemblies’ dissolution deadline.

On Nov 26, Imran Khan announced in Rawalpindi long march to dissolve Punjab and KP assemblies and vowed to resign from Sindh Assembly and National Assembly _ but still nothing has happened as Khan is facing resistance from all sides _ including his party leaders. Even PTI did not say anything about resignations from Senate.

According to media reports, Punjab CM Pervez Elahi went to Rawalpindi on Friday evening and he held an important meeting.

Quoting sources, Geo News said that after returning to Lahore, Punjab chief minister consulted his party leaders on the prevailing political situation. He also took Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain into confidence.

Pervaiz Elahi is not in favour of dissolution of the Punjab Assembly and in his meetings with PTI leaders, Chaudhry pleaded that the Punjab and KP assemblies must not be dissolved.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is still advising Elahi on important national affairs while Chaudhry Shujaat’s son, MNA Salik Hussain held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in London and delivered him message of Chaudhry Shujaat.

The PML-N was willing to accept Parvez Elahi as its chief minister to foil Imran Khan’s attempt to dissolve Punjab Assembly. The ruling coalition is waiting for an affirmative reply from PML-Q leader Chaudhary Shujaat.

According to Geo News, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has opposed Khan’s idea of dissolving the assembly, after Elahi held a crucial meeting in Rawalpindi.

Assuming the provincial assembly is not dissolved with backing from the PML-N, Imran Khan would be left with the option of his party’s lawmakers resigning from the assembly.

Moonis meets Imran

Hours before the CM holding a vital meeting in Rawalpindi, PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi met Imran Khan. He told the PTI leader that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government can victimise the PTI and PML-Q leadership if the assemblies are dissolved.

“You are authorized to make a final decision [on the dissolution of the assembly],” Elahi conveyed Parvez Elahi’s message to the PTI chairman, according to well-placed sources.

The PML-Q leader reassured the former premier that the assembly would be dissolved whenever the latter asked. Elahi, however, suggested that it was not an appropriate time for the decision.

The PML-Q leader apprised Khan that the majority of his party’s lawmaker wants the continuation of development work in their concerned areas.
