LAHORE: The atmosphere in the Punjab Assembly is charged with activity on Wednesday morning as members assemble for a pivotal session aimed at approving an interim budget for the upcoming four-month period. Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has convened this session, which also encompasses the approval of supplementary grants.
Scheduled for a single day, the session is expected to adjourn indefinitely after the approval of the supplementary grants. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan is poised to preside over the proceedings, ensuring the smooth conduct of the meeting.
All members of the PML-N have received explicit instructions to attend the assembly session, and the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is anticipated.
In a briefing to the media before the assembly session, Speaker Khan underscored its primary focus on budgetary matters. He noted that the extension of the caretaker period was necessitated by specific circumstances, emphasizing the imperative for effective budget management by the current government.
Furthermore, Speaker Khan elucidated the procedural aspect of the budget presentation, confirming that it would strictly adhere to constitutional guidelines and be presented by the assembly itself, not the government.
