PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat takes U-turn on his claim of CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s plan of his assassination

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat clarified to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that he did not directly accuse Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of planning his assassination.

Marwat was called in by the FIA’s cybercrime wing for an inquiry regarding a tweet where he alleged the Punjab CM’s involvement in an assassination attempt against him. This came after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Barrister Aqeel Malik filed a complaint against Marwat, according to Geo.

During his session with the FIA, Marwat stated, “I did not specifically name Maryam Nawaz as the mastermind behind the assassination plot. MNA Naseem Ali, who possesses substantial evidence about the plot, conveyed this information to me indirectly.”

Marwat also suggested summoning the MNA to obtain evidence.

On March 9, Marwat tweeted, “It is crucial to acknowledge publicly that ‘Maryam Nawaz Sharif’ poses a threat to my life, as she has orchestrated an ‘assassination attempt against me,’ which can occur at any moment.”

He further claimed that an amount of $100,000 had been allocated by Maryam Nawaz Sharif to the assailants for executing his murder.

Speaking to journalists outside Parliament House on March 9, Marwat alleged that the Punjab CM had hired “contract killers” to target him. He asserted that the alleged contract to eliminate him was not merely a verbal threat but involved concrete financial transactions.

Marwat also stated to the media outside the FIA office that if anything untoward happened to him, the responsibility would lie with the PML-N. However, he emphasized that he would not be intimidated by threats to his life.

Additionally, Marwat claimed that a person who had fled to Dubai from Pakistan 15 years ago was contacted by individuals in India after the “Punjab CM instructed them to do so to plan my murder.” He stated that he possessed audio messages in both Urdu and Pashto and urged an investigation into these messages.

Marwat concluded by asserting that politics in Pakistan had become perilous since May 9, with anyone being susceptible to abduction or murder. He alleged that those in the PML-N were so influential that they suppressed any dissenting voices.
