Former prime minister Imran Khan has allegedly chosen to present his resignation as a member of the National Assembly ahead of the election for the new prime minister of Pakistan.
The decision was allegedly taken during the PTI’s parliamentary party meeting.
Sources familiar with the incident cited Khan as saying: “We would not sit in this Assembly under any circumstances.” He stated PTI will not sit in the Assembly with the individuals who have looted Pakistan and who have been “imported by foreign powers”.
“We have made this choice to keep the institutions under pressure who want this administration to rule the country […] we will not allow them to continue.”
However, sources stated that most of the parliamentary party members rejected Khan’s proposal to offer resignations, and instead, suggested that they should not leave the field empty and battle the Opposition fiercely on every front.
At this, Khan stated if none of the legislators quit, he “would be the first person to resign from the assembly.”
After this, all the members approved of the decision, arguing that Khan had the ability to compel them to quit.
He further remarked that the entire country watched the might of PTI Sunday night.
In another big move, the PTI has also boycotted the election of the prime minister for which they have nominated former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
So far, Farrukh Habib, Ali Zaidi and Murad Saeed’s resignations have come to the fore.
