ISLAMABAD: Clashes between thousands of protesting workers of PTI and police were reported in many cities on Friday as the party held nationwide demonstrations to show its anger against attempt to assassinate Imran Khan on Thursday.
Thousands of PTI workers and supporters came on roads in Rawalpindi, Jhelum Gujranwala, Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad and many other cities. Angry PTI supporters set on fire tyres, blocked roads and raised slogans against the coalition government over the failed attempt on the life of PTI chairman.
In some cities, police resorted to teargas shelling and lathi-charge to disperse furious supporter of Imran Khan.
PTI held nationwide protests on Friday _ a day after a murderous attack on Imran, Faisal Javed and other PTI leaders during long-march in Wazirabad.
Friday’s protests came after the PTI leadership sent a message to supporters to stage protests across the country even as they postponed their long march in view of the attack on senior party leaders.
After Friday prayers, thousands of supporters of PTI gathered on Murree Road at Faizabad, they blocked the road as they protested against attempt on the life of PTI Chairman.
The agitating protesters moved forward, pelted the riot police with stones, as a result of which the police responded with teargas shelling and baton-charge.
Meanwhile, in Lahore, the PTI workers reached the main entrance to the Punjab Governor House and they tried to forcibly enter into the Governor House.
The PTI supporters raised slogans against the coalition government and set on fire tyres.
Moreover, in Karachi, the supporters of Imran Khan and Karachi police clashed at Sharay Faisal on Friday. Thousands of PTI workers gathered at the main road, blocked it for traffic to demonstrate their anger and raised slogans against the PPP, PML-N and other PDM parties.
The supporters of Imran Khan demanded action against those who planned the attack and those who executed it.
