Senator Sania Nishtar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially resigned from her Senate seat.
Sources indicate that her resignation is due to a new position with an international organization in Geneva. She has submitted her resignation to the Senate Secretariat.
Sania Nishtar is a distinguished physician, cardiologist, author, senator, and activist. In 2024, she was appointed as the CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Previously, she served as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, holding the status of Federal Minister, and chaired the Ehsaas Programme.
Nishtar was elected to the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the 2021 Senate elections.
In 2013, she was a member of the interim federal cabinet, where she oversaw public health, education, and science.
Additionally, she chairs the International Advisory Board of the United Nations International Institute for Global Health and is a member of the International Advisory Board on Global Health for the German Federal Government.
