LAHORE: On Saturday, the caretaker Punjab Information Minister, Amir Mir, announced on the social media platform X that PTI leader Salman Akram Raja and other individuals categorized as “miscreants” had undergone a brief period of detention but were subsequently released.
Mir claimed that these individuals, including Salman Akram Raja, had attempted to take matters into their own hands during protests in Lahore, engaging in actions such as road blockades that challenged the rule of law.
Minister Information Punjab, in a tweet, stated, “During the protests in Lahore today, some unruly elements, including Salman Akram Raja, attempted to block roads and take the law into their own hands, and they have been released after being detained.”
Earlier, PTI leader Barrister Salman Akram Raja and more than 15 other protesters were arrested in Lahore during a demonstration protesting alleged election rigging. The arrests occurred outside the PTI’s Jail Road office in Lahore amid fervent chants and slogans from party workers and supporters.
The situation underscores the escalating tensions and widespread protests surrounding allegations of electoral misconduct.
