ISLAMABAD: The ‘Jail Bharo’ campaign led by the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is poised to enter its third day in Rawalpindi. The PTI workers are anticipating court arrest.
Today 14 Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) and six Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) will court arrest themselves.
In solidarity, Allama Raja Nasir, the leader of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), will also present himself for arrest.
The government has made arrangements at Adiala Jail to accommodate the expected arrest of workers.
PTI ‘Jail Bharo’ campaign
The first two days of the campaign have stirred up the political atmosphere in Lahore and Peshawar.
The first day of the campaign in Lahore resulted in the arrest of senior PTI leaders such as Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Azam Swati.
On the second day, former defense minister Pervaiz Khattak, along with a group of party workers and leaders, including Shah Farman and Asad Qaisar, arrived outside the Peshawar Central Jail. However, the Peshawar police didn’t arrest them.
PTI leaders and workers have been moved to different jails after their arrests in Lahore. Additionally, some workers are charged with terrorism and vandalism.
Section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO)
Lahore police arrested PTI workers under Section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). The MPO states, “Government, if satisfied that with a view to preventing any person from acting in any manner prejudicial to public safety p or the maintenance of public order, it is necessary so to do, may, by an order in writing, direct the arrest and detention in such custody Power to arrest and detain suspected persons.”
The Lahore government sent the names of 77 people under the same Section. Thus, they will be arrested for more than three months.
Afterward, Punjab Home Department announced 30 days imprisonment of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PTI Vice Chairman.
