PTI Expresses No Objection to Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice, Says Shoaib Shaheen

Shoaib Shaheen: PTI Has No Objection to Justice Yahya Afridi’s Appointment as Chief Justice. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shoaib Shaheen stated that his party holds no objection to Justice Yahya Afridi’s appointment as Chief Justice of Pakistan.

In an appearance on a News’ program, Shaheen clarified that PTI respects Justice Afridi as both a judge and an individual. However, he expressed strong criticism regarding the process used to implement the constitutional amendments that facilitated the appointment.

Shaheen emphasized that their concerns are not directed at Justice Afridi personally but at the principle of bypassing seniority in the selection process. He cautioned that neglecting seniority could open the door to lobbying and favoritism among judges.

Additionally, Shaheen condemned the 26th Constitutional Amendment, asserting that it has disrupted the entire justice system.

In response to questions about the non-selection of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Barrister Aqeel Malik stated that the selection committee evaluated all three candidates based on merit, considering them all strong choices. He denied any personal issues with any of the judges.
