The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), advocating for swift elections seems hopeful now. PTI believes that the appointed caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, will guarantee the upcoming elections’ fairness, transparency, and adherence to the constitutional three-month timeframe.
Senator Kakar, a relatively lesser-known senator from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), has been chosen as the caretaker prime minister. This decision was the outcome of a consensus between the PM and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly. This agreement was reached during the second round of consultations. President Arif Alvi subsequently endorsed this selection under Article 224 1A.
In response, a spokesperson for the Imran Khan-led PTI party remarked that the caretaker prime minister bears a significant responsibility. The spokesperson expressed hope that the caretaker prime minister will safeguard the constitutional and democratic rights of the people without further encroachments.
The PTI spokesperson emphasized that one of the pivotal roles of a caretaker government is to provide equitable opportunities for all political parties to conduct their election campaigns.
Raja Riaz, speaking after a meeting with the prime minister, explained that the choice of a caretaker prime minister from a smaller province was aimed at promoting inclusivity and addressing the sense of deprivation in such provinces. Kakar’s nomination was recommended by Raja Riaz and approved by the relevant parties.
Raja Riaz also noted that the caretaker PM is may take the oath of office on the upcoming Sunday.
