Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) leaders Hanif Abbasi and Saad Rafique found themselves embroiled in a contentious altercation with female political activists in Islamabad on Tuesday, as reported by sources within the PMLN.
The incident unfolded in Kohsar Market, Islamabad, where female activists allegedly voiced grievances regarding purported electoral irregularities by raising slogans. However, tensions escalated when the women purportedly resorted to inappropriate language, prompting Hanif Abbasi to attempt recording the encounter on his mobile phone.
The situation quickly devolved into a physical altercation, resulting in both politicians allegedly being slapped by the female activists.
Initial reports of the altercation surfaced on social media platforms and were subsequently corroborated by sources within the Islamabad police department. However, as of now, neither Abbasi nor Rafique has lodged a formal complaint with the authorities regarding the incident.
The altercation underscores the simmering tensions and heightened emotions surrounding allegations of electoral malpractice, reflecting the charged political atmosphere in Pakistan. While the precise details of the confrontation remain subject to interpretation, the incident highlights the need for constructive dialogue and respectful engagement within the political sphere to address grievances and foster a conducive environment for democratic discourse.
