Speculation has been rife regarding the health of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab, with some reports suggesting she may have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Ms. Sharif recently traveled to Geneva for throat treatment, accompanied by her father, Nawaz Sharif, and senior PML-N leader Maryam Aurangzeb. This trip sparked a wave of speculation on social media, with some claiming it was not for routine treatment but due to a serious medical condition.
Prominent journalist Mansoor Ali Khan suggested that the purpose of her visit was linked to a cancer diagnosis. However, PML-N leaders have quickly dismissed these rumours as “baseless.”
It is not the first time Ms. Sharif has sought treatment in Geneva for throat-related issues. In 2023, during the previous PML-N government, she had undergone throat surgery there.
Before leaving for Geneva, reports indicate that she had visited Sharif Medical Hospital in Pakistan for preliminary checks. There are claims that her health condition worsened suddenly, leading to her immediate trip abroad. Some sources also suggest that a previous thyroid check-up two years ago revealed possible cancerous cells, but further test results are awaited in the coming days.
PML-N officials have urged the public to disregard the unfounded rumours and emphasized that the family is focused on her health and well-being.
