PML-N Announces Candidates for Lahore District in Upcoming General Elections

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has disclosed its candidate list for the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly seats in the Lahore District for the upcoming February 8 general elections.

The list includes Sheikh Rohail Asghar as the PML-N candidate for NA-121, while Ayaz Sadiq, another contender for the same constituency, will run for NA-120. Notably, former minister Attaullah Tarar is set to face Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in NA-127, making it a significant contest in Lahore.

Other key candidates from PML-N include Shehbaz Sharif for NA-130, President Shehbaz Sharif for NA-123, Hamza Shehbaz for NA-118, Maryam Nawaz for NA-119 and NA-159, and Khawaja Saad Rafique for NA-122.

On the provincial assembly front, Shehbaz Sharif will also contest from PP-164 and PP-158, while Hamza and Maryam are fielded for PP-147 and PP-159 constituencies, respectively.

However, reports suggest that internal differences within the PML-N have led to uncertainties about the party’s candidate for NA-143. In Sahiwal, PML-N leaders may run as independents in national and provincial constituencies if they do not secure party tickets. Tufail Jatt, dissatisfied with the seat adjustment with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), plans to contest as an independent in NA-143.

Moreover, there are competitive contests within the party, with Qasim Nadeem, Malik Amir, and Mubashir Hasan set to face off in the upcoming election on PP-199. Additionally, Malik Arshad Khan will compete against former Mayor Asad Khan Baloch. These internal dynamics indicate challenges and tensions within the PML-N as the election date approaches.
