Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday condemned the allegations against Saudi Arabia, calling them “unacceptable.”
Addressing the public in Taunsa, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the people of Pakistan would not tolerate any efforts to damage the strong bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. “Saudi Arabia has always been a steadfast supporter of Pakistan,” he remarked, acknowledging the Kingdom’s unconditional backing without asking for anything in return.
Regarding Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, PM Shehbaz shared, “The Crown Prince expressed his interest in supporting Pakistan by initiating projects, and we are looking forward to these collaborations.” He expressed disappointment over the controversial statement that had been made, saying it was contrary to the positive relationship between the two countries.
The Prime Minister also reflected on Saudi Arabia’s critical role in Pakistan’s financial stability, particularly regarding the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout. “Saudi Arabia helped Pakistan secure the deal with the IMF and provided free oil when Pakistan faced sanctions after the nuclear tests,” he noted.
In a veiled reference to former first lady Bushra Bibi, he stated, “Yesterday, the limits were crossed by displaying hostility toward Saudi Arabia in a written statement.”
He continued, “Saudi Arabia has never sought anything from Pakistan in the past 77 years. It was King Abdullah who, in a gesture of brotherhood, held Nawaz Sharif’s hand and said, ‘You are my brother.'”
The Prime Minister reiterated that Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s most important allies.
Shifting to domestic issues, PM Shehbaz discussed the situation in Balochistan, mentioning the initiation of a solarization project for tube wells in the province. He praised Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti for promoting meritocracy, acknowledging his efforts to bring positive change to the region.
Reflecting on the aftermath of the devastating 2022 flash floods, the Prime Minister noted that the Kacchi Canal had suffered significant damage. He credited Nawaz Sharif for spearheading the Kacchi Canal project, adding that it had been hindered during the tenure of former President Pervez Musharraf.
