PM Kakar Assures Full Support for Elections in a Meeting with Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has assured Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja of full support to ensure transparent general elections, scheduled for February 8.

In a statement, Kakar pledged that the government would provide all necessary resources to facilitate these elections. This commitment was made during a meeting with CEC Raja in Islamabad, where the CEC briefed the prime minister on the Election Commission’s preparations for the upcoming general elections.

Raja also extended an invitation to Kakar to visit the electoral authority’s office and review the election preparations.

Last week, CEC Raja and President Arif Alvi unanimously agreed to hold the general elections on February 8, 2024, in response to an ultimatum from the Supreme Court to determine the election date in a case related to election delay.

On the same day, the United States administration expressed its focus on ensuring fair elections in Pakistan, emphasizing its commitment to supporting free and fair elections for the benefit of the Pakistani people. When asked about doubts from some analysts regarding whether elections would take place without former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the US State Department’s Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel stated that it is up to the people of Pakistan to decide.
