PM Imran Again Makes A Plea For Early Elections

“They’ve been calling for the PM to resign and for early elections to be held. In fact, that’s exactly what I’ve done. How come the Supreme Court is suddenly involved in this matter?”

PM Imran Khan presented the case for early elections in another live telethon on Monday. He questioned why the former opposition had moved Supreme Court against President Alvi’s decision to dissolve the legislatures and called for an immediate election.

“They’ve been calling for the PM to resign and for early elections to be held. In fact, that’s exactly what I’ve done. How come the Supreme Court is suddenly involved in this matter?”

“To what extent is the president’s decision to dissolve the legislative bodies an act of impeachment, or is it an act of treason?” he inquired.

The Supreme Court has also taken notice of the matter, so it’s important to emphasise that.

When asked about the alleged foreign-funded conspiracy that the PM claims was set in motion by the US and is being supported by the opposition leaders, he asked, “What is better: to go to the people and get the mandate or let it be decided by an international conspiracy, where lawmakers are being paid Rs20-25 crores?”

The opposition, according to the PM, had to make this move because:

“They demand NRO-like relief,” he stated while mentioning that opposition leaders had ongoing legal proceedings.

Nawaz Sharif was convicted, and former finance minister Ishaq Dar is also on the run, he claimed. “Shehbaz Sharif is out on bail, as is his son,” he said.

According to him, “They want these cases resolved” and were looking for something like the National Reconciliation Ordinance provided to them by then-president General Pervez Musharraf.

“They habe had fresh lawsuits filed against them in the last 10 years,” he said.

And he went on to say that early elections were not supported by the opposition, who feared that their own people would be in command of the interim setup and be in a position to rig elections going forward.
