Senate Opposition Leader Yousuf Raza Gilani while talking to media persons in Parliament House confirmed that he had received show cause notice from the PDM to which Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will respond.
In his inaugural address to the Senate, Gilani claimed that he would lead all opposition parties, but also said that the government should be involved in legislation for the welfare of the people.
After Yousuf Raza Gilani became the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, MPs from the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the largest opposition party in the National Assembly, have been criticizing each other. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has named Yousuf Raza Gilani as the official opposition leader without naming him after his election.
During the proceedings in Pakistan’s upper house, the Senate, in the past, the government in the Senate faced considerable resistance from opposition parties, such as the PML-N government. At that time, the Pakistan People’s Party and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government were giving tough time.
Yousuf Raza Gilani’s first speech as Leader of the Opposition during the Senate session on Monday gave the impression that he would support the opposition less and the government more.
Some members of the ruling coalition Awami Balochistan Party have now joined the opposition, so in the presence of members of the Balochistan Awami Party whenever the members of the opposition will meet, it will strengthen this impression that the government is now in opposition.
On the other hand, a 27-center coalition led by Pakistan Muslim Nawaz Senator Azam Nazir Tarar has requested the Chairman Senate to allot separate seats in the opposition.
In his first speech in the Senate, Azam Nazir Tarar, without naming the Balochistan Awami Party senators, said that these members were a “gift” from the government, which was also protested by the Balochistan Awami Party members.
